Aden Governor Killed in Attack

The so-called Islamic State militant group has claimed a car bomb that killed the governor of Aden and six of his bodyguards. The assassination follows the visit by UN special envoy seeking a peace pact. Governor Jaafar Mohamed Saad was traveling early Sunday to his office in a convoy when the explosion ripped through the vehicles in the Tawahi district of the southern port city. Witnesses and security officials say several members of his entourage also died when the unidentified bomber rammed a vehicle into the governor’s convoy before detonating the explosives, Reuters reported. The former army general had been appointed governor in October. Houthi fighters based in northern Yemen control much of the country, including the capital Sana’a.
