A concert of Qawwali music was performed at Tehran’s Milad Tower Monday night.
A group of officials and diplomats from Iran and Pakistan participated in the musical performance along with a considerable number of Pakistani audiences, ISNA reported.
Before the concert began, Pakistan ambassador to Iran Noor Muhammad Jadmani said, “Iran and Pakistan have a deep friendly relationship. Just as Iranians know Muhammad Iqbal Lahori, people in Pakistan also praise Iranian poets Mawlana, Ferdowsi, and Sa’di.”
The songs performed on the stage mostly included praising and worshipping of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and Imam Ali (AS) and Imam Hussain (AS). The pieces were welcomed by the audience, especially the Pakistanis.
Qawwali is a form of Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia, particularly Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. It is a musical tradition that stretches back for more than 700 years. It received international exposure through the work of the late Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The central themes are love, devotion and longing for the Divine.
