Japan’s Education Minister Hakubun Shimomura and Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi signed the first memorandum of understanding between the two sides in scientific and educational cooperation in Kyoto on Tuesday. Shimomura stressed Iran’s strategic role in the Middle East region, and said the MoU “is a stepping stone for further mutual collaboration in science, technology, research, and development.” Farhadi is in Japan to attend the annual Kyoto Science and Technology in Society forum, reports Borna News Agency. The MoU envisages bolstering bilateral academic ties, student and teacher exchange programs, and joint research projects.
