Iran has reclaimed its first ranking in world pistachio production in 2015, says head of Dried Fruit and Nut Exporters Union, Mohammad Hassan Shamsfard. According to the official, Iran’s pistachio production so far this year stands at more than 220,000 tons, which already shows an increase of 20,000 tons compared to last year, Tasnim News Agency reported. In recent years, the first place in production of pistachios was held by the US, whose production so far amounts to 180,000 tons—the lowest over the past two years. “Although the US consumes the majority of its production, the country is still Iran’s main rival in pistachio exports,” said Shamsfard.
