During a meeting between China’s Ambassador to Iran Pang Sen and Governor of Khorasan Razavi Province Alireza Rashidian in Mashhad on Tuesday, the two sides discussed cooperation in the transportation sector.
Constructing electric and express trains in the Tehran-Mashhad rail line was one of the main topics of discussion at the meeting, Mehr News Agency reported.
The Iranian official also called for the establishment of direct flights between Mashhad and Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwest China, noting that Khorasan Razavi hosts more than 27 million pilgrims and tourists every year as the “cultural capital” of the Muslim world.
