Transportation Key Area of Cooperation With Spain

There is significant potential for cooperation in the transportation sector between Iran and Spain, said Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mining and Agriculture board member, Fatemeh Moqimi.

“As we move towards building new trade ties with Spain, the transportation sector finds even more significance. Therefore we seek to strike cooperation deals with the Spanish and make use of their expertise in ocean freight shipping and railroad transportation,” ISNA quoted Moqimi as saying.

She added that small and medium enterprises must be expanded so that they can have a seat in foreign dealings.

According to Iran’s Ambassador in Madrid Mohammad Hassan Fadaeifard, it is a great opportunity for Iran to cooperate with Spain in upgrading its railroad fleet and development of high-speed trains.

“Spain is among few countries with technical capacities to develop high-speed train services with a speed of more than 300 kilometers per hour,” he noted.

Spain’s Minister of Public Works and Transport Ana Pastor expressed Madrid’s readiness to cooperate with Iran in ports, railroad expansion and urban development during her recent visit to Tehran and meeting with Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi.

Pastor pointed to Spain’s expertise and experience in the railroad sector and said: “Cooperation in construction of express trains is high on the agenda of the two countries.”

She was part of a 70-member Spanish delegation who arrived in Tehran on September 6 for a three-day visit and meeting with high-ranking Iranian officials to discuss cooperation in tourism, energy and transportation.
