Parents who refuse to send their children to school will face legal action, said Mohammad Dimevar, deputy for elementary education at the Education Ministry. “Violators will be fined up to $300 (10 million rials),” he was quoted by IRNA as saying. Elementary education for all children is compulsory under Iranian law. The next five-year economic development plan (2016-21) seeks to mandate education till the ninth grade (junior high school) and heavy fines for guardians who refuse to abide by the law.
