A passenger plane landed on Thursday at the Aden International Airport, the first civilian plane to arrive at the airport after four months of war.
An official from the High Relief Committee said on condition of anonymity that the Yemenia Airways flight carried 158 Yemenis who had escaped the fighting in Aden to Djibouti, World Bulletin reported.
The official added that Yemenia Airways planes will continue their daily flights from Aden to a number of Arab capitals, after forces loyal to Yemen’s fugitive president Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi captured the country’s main airport in a setback against Houthi forces.
In April, the Houthis took control of Aden, forcing Hadi along with most of his government to flee to the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Nearly 2,000 Yemeni civilians have been killed to date in the fighting between Houthi militiamen and pro-Hadi forces, the UN announced on Tuesday.
Nearly 100,000 Yemenis have fled abroad since late March, according to the United Nations refugee agency. The war in Yemen has also killed nearly 4,000 people.
