Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said unemployment and divorce are major problems affecting women, especially female breadwinners. He also called for implementation of plans to boost the job market and increase productivity of young graduates.
“Iranian women have shown great potential and responsibilities in managerial positions,” said the chairman of the Expediency Council, in a meeting with Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs, Shahindokht Molaverdi, IRNA reports.
The Ministry of Education has secured teachers’ rights and also that of students in higher education, Rafsanjani said. “Teachers are knowledgeable and can lead society towards a culture of self-esteem.”
He emphasized women’s role in politics, and said women, who make up half the population, can participate actively in politics and elections, both as candidates and voters.
The former president said bureaucratic rules are an obstacle to resolving women’s issues and appealed for cooperation in achieving the Islamic Revolution’s objectives in improving women’s social status.
He commended Molaverdi’s office in promoting women’s social role and social justice.
