MSC Produces 4KT of IF Steel

Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC), in a joint project with major auto manufacturer Iran Khodro, has produced more than 4,000 metric tons of high tensile steel (technically known as IF or interstitial-free steel) in the form of cold-formed steel in various thicknesses and widths, IRNA reported. Iran Khodro provided necessary equipment for quality tests. The IF steel requires special processes including degassing, carbon reduction through RH, increasing the temperature to 900 degrees Celsius for the final rolling and 700 degrees for bundling. It is produced with very low amounts of interstitial elements (primarily carbon and nitrogen) with small amounts of titanium or niobium added to tie up the remaining interstitial atoms. Mobarakeh Steel Company is the major supplier of steel sheets and plates for the country’s growing auto sector.
