Khuzestan Jolted

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale jolted Zahreh region in the southwestern province of Khuzestan on Sunday.

According to the Seismography Center of Tehran University’s Geophysics Institute, the quake occurred at 05:35 local time (01:05 GMT).

The tremor’s epicenter was at 48.30 degrees latitude and 81.49 degrees longitude. There were no reports of possible casualties or damage.

Iran is frequently hit by tremors. In 2003 tens of thousands of people were killed in a quake which flattened Bam in Kerman Province. More than 300 people died in two quakes in northwestern Iran in August this year.
