Fiat Loses $150m Verdict

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV was ordered to pay $150m to the family of a 4-year-old boy who burned to death in a crash after a jury found the carmaker recklessly designed the gas tank for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, DW said. The verdict in rural Bainbridge, Georgia, comes in the first trial over fires involving several older Jeep models when struck from behind, a scenario responsible for at least 75 deaths since the late 1990s. The trial over the 2012 death of Remington Walden is renewing demand by safety advocates for a massive recall of older Grand Cherokees and Jeep Liberties, which all have gas tanks about 11 inches from the back of the vehicle.
