The top three cars involved in the highest number of accidents are Pride, Paykan and Pick-up Nissan respectively. Traffic Police Chief General Eskandar Momeni said a high percentage of road accidents are due to drivers failure to have their cars inspected regularly. Momeni added that the second major reason for accidents was “drowsy driving.” The best way to reduce traffic deaths and injuries “is to raise awareness about safety issues among drivers,” ISNA reported. Momeni also announced a 15% increase in the number of police cars for the coming year (beginning March 21). All the police cars would be domestically manufactured.
