    Exports From Khorasan Razavi Surge by 40% to $250 Million

    A total of 400,000 tons of goods worth $250 million were exported from Khorasan Razavi Province’s customs terminals during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21-May 21), according to Javad Jafari, a local official. He noted that the exports registered a rise of 16% and 40% in terms of weight and value respectively compared with the same period of last year. The exports mainly included saffron, eggs, pistachio, polyethylene and apple, IRNA reported. Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Uzbekistan were the main export destinations during the period. Meanwhile, 31,000 tons of goods worth $88 million were imported to the province during the same period, marking a growth of 5% and 11% year-on-year. The imports mainly included cotton, mobile phones, rice, thread and industrial milk powder. The main exporters to the province were the UAE, Tajikistan, Turkey, the Netherlands and China. Jafari noted that 336,000 tons of foreign goods were transited from Khorasan Razavi during the period to register a 22% rise. The official concluded that the figures on exports and imports show the province registered a trade surplus of $162 million during the two months under review. The northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi has four border terminals: Sarakhs, Lotfabad and Bajgiran border Turkmenistan, while Dogharoun is the gateway to Afghanistan. The city of Torbat-e Heydariyeh in Khorasan Razavi is the main saffron producing region of Iran as well as the capital of saffron in the world.
