    ‘Iran Health’ Expo Underway

Tehran is hosting the 24th International Exhibition of Medical, Dental, Laboratory and Pharmaceutical Equipment, also known as “Iran Health”.

Hosting more than 500 domestic and foreign companies, the four-day event opened at Tehran’s International Fairground on May 27.

Representatives of 120 foreign companies from Italy, Germany, China, Russia, Turkey, Switzerland, Denmark, South Korea, India, Australia, Japan, Pakistan and Taiwan participated in the expo, 60% more than in the previous edition of the event, IRIB News reported.

More than 30 new technological products in the fields of artificial intelligence, organ transplantation, operating room technologies, medical gases, clinical evaluation and heavy medical equipment are due to be unveiled at “Iran Health 2023”.

According to European sources, Iran possesses the fifth largest medical device market in the region.

Although the local government is highly committed to self-sufficiency, compliance of its production sites with international standards and an increase in production, the industry is highly import-driven. The market consists of 88% imports with more than 70.4% of these imports coming from Europe, namely Germany and the Netherlands. Continued growth is expected in the medical sector to address the shortage of specialized devices.

Iran has strived to improve this sector with a focus on enhancing the quality of care it offers its citizens and the pent-up demand for high quality medical, dental and surgical services that require the use of sophisticated diagnostic and treatment devices and equipment.

Medical tourism has been instrumental in increasing demand for medical equipment and devices, especially those used in ophthalmology, surgical procedures (cosmetic, orthopedics, cardiac and thoracic), as well as dermatology. Medical tourism has been flourishing in Iran, as it offers quality expertise at lower costs.

Iran has invested heavily in the medical industry by increasing the number of high-end medical facilities and providing incentives to the private sector to offer better medical services to both its citizens and medical tourists to become the medical regional hub in the future.
