Unique, Multiuse Hybrid Mill Developed by UT Researchers

Researchers at the University of Tehran have developed a unique hybrid mill that creates nanopowder from different substances for use in research centers and industries

Domestic researchers have produced a unique hybrid mill that creates nanopowder from different substances for use in research centers and industries.

The mill has been developed by the researchers of the University of Tehran (UT), in cooperation with the Technical and Vocational University and the Materials and Energy Research Center, according to the director of UT’s Nanobiophotonics Research Laboratory.

“By simultaneously using a bullet and ultrasonic power, the hybrid mill can produce nanopowder from various ceramic and metal compounds while maintaining their properties,” Mohammad Mohammadi Masoudi was also quoted as saying as IRNA.

Nanopowders have individual particles at the nanometer scale. Due to their small sizes, these powders have extraordinarily high surface area-to-volume ratio that changes their physical-chemical properties compared with macroscale powders.

The ability to control nanoparticle size by changing milling frequency and time is the main feature of this hybrid mill, which can also handle mechanical alloying.

As it allows nanoparticles to penetrate into metal substrates for creating different coatings, the hybrid mill can be used in metallurgy, photonics, component manufacturing and automobile industries.

According to Mohammadi, the hybrid mill does not have a domestic or foreign counterpart and is the first of its kind.

“The device will be sold to universities and research centers with a three-year warranty,” he said.

Bandsaw Metal Cutting Machine Developed

A domestic knowledge-based company has produced a high-quality bandsaw metal cutting machine that is cheaper than its foreign counterparts.

The machine is used to cut different hard objects in several industries, according to a member of the Board of Directors of Khatir Machine Company.

“The domestic bandsaw cutting machine, which can be used in different industries, is of high quality and capacity, and provides accurate and easy cutting. The machine can cut different kinds of metals such as copper, iron, aluminum and profiles,” Hamidreza Taqizadeh Khatir was also quoted as saying by the news portal of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.

It is one of the main pieces of equipment used in workshops and small industries for cutting materials using the cold cutting method that does not produce sparks. It is considered the safest cutting method in hazardous places, he added.

The company official further said that due to the convenience of using this device and its high speed, the handy device could be used to cut all kinds of materials.

“All safety measures have been taken to prevent any harm to the user, if the machine’s blade breaks or the cover opens during the cutting process. It also helps reduce problems caused by human error,” he said.

Taqizadeh noted that the domestic bandsaw cutting machine costs almost half the price of its foreign counterparts, but has a much higher quality and efficiency.

The production of the company’s knowledge-based products has created 20 direct jobs and about 100 indirect jobs.

The quality of Iran-made products have improved to such an extent that they are being exported and prevent currency outflow by making imports unnecessary.

CNC Precision Cutting Machine Efficient, Low-Priced

An Iranian knowledge-based company has designed and produced a computer numerical control (CNC) precision cutting machine at a lower price compared with foreign counterparts.

Precision cutting machines are among major pieces of equipment used in a variety of industries and fields, the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology reported.

“CNC design and manufacturing devices are complex and vital machines used in most industries. We have strived to expand our activities in this sector and produce Iranian knowledge-based products,” said Mehdi Mehdipour Aqabaqer, CEO of Sadrafan Gostar Machine Tool and Automation Technology Development Company.

Many molds and industrial parts or models are first designed in 3D using software and then fabricated by CNC machines.

The Iranian company produces different kinds of CNC machines that are employed in academic environments and different industries. Its products are being used in dozens of prestigious Iranian universities, including Isfahan University of Technology, Iran University of Science and Technology and Tarbiat Modares University.

Young engineers of these universities learn the techniques of operating these machines, which comply with international standards.

The company has also produced related software and electronic controllers.

The small- and medium-scale industrial devices of this company are used to produce all kinds of industrial molds, models, works of art and engravings.

A CNC machine, for instance, has the mechanical software for producing dental crowns or implants. Currently, foreign counterparts are sold at 25 to 30 billion rials ($82,000-98,000), but the Iranian company is able to produce the domestic machine at a much lower price and performs efficiently.
