    Rajaee Port Throughput Reaches 38m Tons in H1

    With a container loading and unloading capacity of 6.5 million TEUs per year, Shahid Rajaee, located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan Province, is considered Iran’s biggest container port

    Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan Province handled 38 million tons of goods during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept. 22), according to a local official.

    “The port accounted for 45% of the total throughput registered by all of Hormozgan Province’s ports during the period,” Hossein Abbasnejad, director general of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization, was quoted as saying by IRIB News.

    Loading and unloading of non-oil goods stood at 22 million tons and those of oil products at 16 million tons, he added.

    The official noted that container throughput stood at 940,000 TEUs, as 3.1 million tons of foreign goods were transited through Shahid Rajaee Port during the period.  

    According to Mansour Khorramshokouh, another local official, a total of 2.83 million tons of goods were transported to and from Shahid Rajaee Port during the same period.

    “Around 2.25 million tons of the total sum were unloaded and the remaining 581,732 tons were loaded,” the deputy head of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization was quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

    He added that 243,686 tons of essential goods, mainly corn, edible oils, rice, wheat and barley, were transported via railroad from Shahid Rajaee Port to destinations across the country during the period.

    Last year, a total of 5.8 million tons of exports were carried to the southern port via railroad and close to 1.2 million tons of imported goods were transported from Shahid Rajaee Port by rail to different destinations in the country.

    With a container loading and unloading capacity of 6.5 million TEUs per year, Shahid Rajaee, located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan Province, is considered Iran’s biggest container port. 

    With 18 gantry cranes and 40 berths, over half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out at Shahid Rajaee Port.

    Launched in 1985, the port has expanded every year. Today it is connected to 80 ports worldwide and is considered the most advanced container port of Iran.  

    The significance of this port lies in its large capacity, including its location in the Persian Gulf, container terminal, fuel bunkering, access to 24 kilometers of railroads and round-the-clock truck transportation.

    In terms of transit, Shahid Rajaee Special Economic Zone tops the list of Iranian customs terminals.

    Iran’s commercial ports handled a total of 105.43 million tons of goods in the first half of the current Iranian year to register a 6% rise compared with the similar period of last year, News.mrud.ir reported.

    Unloading of oil products stood at 13.4 million tons during the period under review, registering a 6% year-on-year rise. 

    Unloading of non-oil products stood at 25.92 million tons, registering an 11% YOY rise. 

    Unloading of oil and non-oil products combined stood at 39.33 million tons, registering a 9% YOY rise. 

    Loading of oil products stood at 39.16 million tons, non-oil products at 26.96 million tons, and oil and non-oil products combined at 66.1 million tons over the period. 

    Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization said the latter figure registered a 4% YOY rise, without reporting changes in the first two. 

    Combined loading and unloading of oil products stood at 52.56 million tons and that of non-oil products stood at 52.87 million tons over the six-month period. 

    A total of 105.43 million tons of oil and non-oil products were loaded and unloaded over the period, indicating a 10% growth in the loading and unloading of oil products, 2% growth in loading and unloading of non-oil products, and a 6% increase in loading and unloading of oil and non-oil products combined compared with the same period of the last year. 

    Loading and unloading of containers stood at 1.23 TEU in H1, indicating an 11% YOY rise.      

    The 22 ports under study include Iran’s southern ports of Abadan, Imam Khomeini, Bushehr, Khorramshahr, Genaveh, Bandar Lengeh, Chavibdeh, Arvandkenar, Charak and Dayyer located on the shores of the Persian Gulf, Shahid Rajaee, Shahid Bahonar, Shahid Haqqani, Qeshm and Tiab at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, Jask and Chabahar on the coasts of the Sea of Oman and the northern ports of Fereydounkenar, Noshahr, Astara, Amirabad and Anzali on the Caspian Sea shoreline.
