Gas supply to the major industries of Iran, including steel, cement and petrochemicals plants, increased by 13% in the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 22-Aug. 22) compared with the same period of last year, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company said.
“During the same period, large industrial units across the country were supplied with 145 million cubic meters of gas per day,” Majid Chegeni was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.
This is while between March and August in 2021, about 128 mcm of gas were supplied to the industries per day, he added.
Chegeni noted that following the implementation of extensive plans for the overhaul of facilities, pressure booster stations and refineries in all parts of the country, the gas delivered to power plants this summer increased by 6% compared with last year’s summer, stressing that the measures helped the country go through the hot summer season without any blackouts.
According to the NIGC data, the company supplied close to 265 billion cubic meters of natural gas to households, industries, commercial units and power stations between July 2021 and June 2022.
The length of gas transfer pipeline in Iran has exceeded 38,000 kilometers and close to 1,000 km were added to the grid in the one-year period.
The national gas grid is equipped with 326 compressors, including high-pressure gas compressors, turbo compressors, electro-compressors and engine compressors.
Ten turbines went on stream last year and development plans are still underway in different regions.
With the installation of new pipelines and construction of pressure boosting stations, more gas can be transmitted through the Iran Gas Trunkline, which is a series of nine large diameter pipelines built to supply gas from refineries in southern Iran (Khuzestan and Bushehr provinces).
