Iranian payment service provider companies have been ranked among the world’s top 150 in 2020, according to a report by the Nilson Report magazine, a journal specializing in payment industry news.
Behpardakht Mellat, affiliated to Bank Mellat, ranked 11th on the list with 6.94 billion plus transactions.
With 5.97 billion transactions, Saman Bank’s E-Payment Company was 15th. Parsian E-Commerce Company, an affiliate of Parsian Bank, was the world's 17th largest acquirer. The payment company processed 5.25 billion transactions in the year.
Asan Pardakht Persian came in 26th with 3.78 billion transactions.
Iran Kish Credit Card Company handled 3.7 billion transactions to clinch the 30th spot.
Sadad Electronic Payment Company of the state-owned Bank Melli was 50th. It handled 1.3 billion transactions in 2020.
Pasargad Electronic Payment Company, affiliated to Bank Pasargad Iran, was 60th with 959 million transactions for the year.
Total transactions of the top 150 reached 354.8 billion processed in 2020 -- up 2.8% on the year. JPMorgan Chase’s market share among the top 150 went up to 10.0% from 9.4%. Russia-based Sberbank was up 8.6% from 6.0% and Fiserv (First Data) went up to 6.3% from 5.9%.
The top 10, which collectively processed 183.48 billion transactions, accounted for 51.7% of all transactions handled by all acquirers listed in the report.
JPMorgan Chase overtook the Worldpay unit of FIS to become the largest merchant acquirer worldwide. China UMS moved from 7th to 6th. Citi Merchant Services moved from 11th to 9th.
Worldline Group moved to 10th place from 19th due to its acquisitions of Six Payment Services, Paysquare, Bambora and Ingenico. Figures listed here include Worldline’s joint venture with Payone. Worldline owns 60% of Payone.
Domestic Market
Performance reports of payment service providers show three major companies handled nearly 57% of the total e-transactions in the fiscal year to March 2021.
Shaparak of the Central Bank of Iran and in charge of supervising the domestic payment network, processed more than 33.16 billion e-payments worth 54,571 trillion rials ($228.8 b) in the year, 21.27% of which was handled by Beh Pardakht Mellat company.
Saman Electronic Payment and Parsian Electronic Commerce Company were next with 19.34% and 17.6%, respectively. PECCO managed to expand its market share by 2.51%.
Affiliated to Parsian Bank, PECCO posted remarkable growth at 44% in the number of transactions to top the list of PSPs in terms of increase in the number of payments. Pasargad Electronic Payment came in with 43% growth in the volume of transactions.
