Growth in Domestic Airport Traffic

Iranian airports' domestic passenger traffic saw a year-on-year growth of 19% during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21- Aug. 22), as 9.99 million passengers used Iranian airlines during the period, new data released by Iran Airports Company show. 

Takeoffs and landings posted a 41% YOY growth to 129,464. 

Over 80.1 million tons of cargos were shipped during the period under review, 34% higher YOY.

Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport accounted for 3.82 million of the total number of passengers, 11% more than in the corresponding period of last year.

Mashhad International Airport and Shiraz International Airport came next with 1.63 million and 687,384 passengers respectively. 

Mehrabad handled 48,475 landings and takeoffs during the period, considerably higher than other Iranian airports.

IAC data also indicate 71% growth in the total number of foreign flights crossing Iranian airspace during the five months to Aug. 22.

A total of 52,339 foreign flights flew across Iran's airspace during the period, which figure stood at 30,649 during the same period of the year before. 

IAC's data do not include figures on Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, which account for the largest portion of international flights operated to/from Iran. 

During the fifth month of the current fiscal year (July 23-Aug. 22), a total of 1.93 million passengers were domestically transported by Iranian airlines during the period to register a 15% YOY decline.

Takeoffs and landings posted a 9% growth to reach 25,497. 

Over 15.46 million tons of cargos were handled during the same period, 2% lower than the previous year's 15.71 million tons. 

Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport accounted for 713,325 of the total number of passengers, 22% fewer than the same period of last year.

Mashhad International Airport and Shiraz International Airport came next with 311,715 and 136,618 passengers, respectively. 

Mehrabad handled 9,313 landings and takeoffs during the period, considerably higher than other Iranian airports.

Iranian airlines operated a total of 710 flights from Tehran to Mashhad during the month ending July 22, transporting 64,678 passengers. Tehran-Mashhad topped the list of most travelled air routes.

A total of 66,705 passengers were flown from Mashhad to Tehran during the month under review via 708 direct flights.

Tehran-Shiraz route came next with the highest number of monthly flights, followed by Tehran-Ahvaz and Tehran-Kish. 

A 33% rise was registered in the total number of foreign flights using Iranian airspace during the month to Aug. 22. 

A total of 11,250 foreign flights flew over Iran's airspace during the month, which stood at 8,431 during the same period of the year before.
