Several power and water projects were inaugurated in Fars Province on Saturday.
Hayghar Dam in Firouzabad County, Fars Province, is one of the projects that helps irrigate 1,000 hectares in the region, the provincial governor was quoted as saying by ISNA.
“With the construction of six dams in Fars in the past eight years, the province has 12 dams now,” Enayatollah Rahimi added.
Two more dams are currently under construction in the southern province and have registered over 70% progress. They are expected to be completed by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2021-22.
A project was also launched to transfer water from Roudbal Dam, with a capacity of 82 million cubic meters, to Zarrin-Dasht County via 41 kilometers of pipeline.
According to the provincial governor, three small-scale power plants with a distributed generation system and a total capacity of 20 megawatts also came on stream in Fars, bringing the number of such stations to 28, with a total production capacity of 160 MW.
Distributed generation refers to electricity produced in small quantities near the point of use, as alternative or supplement to traditional centralized grid-connected power. It reduces the cost and complexity associated with transmission and distribution, while offsetting peak electricity demand and stabilizing the local grid.
Commenting on solar energy in the province, the official said, “So far, 16 solar stations have been built with a total electricity generation capacity of 66.7 MW. Rooftop photovoltaic stations are also operating with a capacity of 72.4 MW.”
Rahimi noted that large-scale solar farm projects are underway in the north of the province with foreign investment, which will add 650 MW to the network capacity.
