    $9.7b Worth of Agrifood Imported in 11 Months

    A total of 21.74 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $9.7 billion were imported into Iran during the first 11 months of the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2021), registering a year-on-year decline of 5.7% in volume and a 17.7% fall in value.

    According to the Agriculture Ministry’s latest report, feed corn had the biggest share in total imports in terms of value with $2.31 billion, followed by semi- and whole-milled rice with $820.66 million, soymeal with $693.78 million and wheat with $619.7 million.

    In terms of tonnage, feed corn topped imports with 9.19 million tons, followed by wheat with 2.23 million tons, barley with 1.7 million tons and soymeal with 1.615 million tons.

    Agronomical products accounted for 20.67 million tons worth $7.84 billion of total imports, down 3.8% in tonnage and down 12.6% in value YOY.

    Horticultural products stood at 919,920 tons worth $1.1 billion, down 24.4% and 16.9% in tonnage and value respectively YOY.

    Imports of livestock and poultry products hit 90.58 tons worth $401.1 million, down 69.19% and 69.79% in tonnage and value respectively YOY.

    The veterinary sector imported 3.315 tons worth $270.2 million, up 25% in tonnage and 23% in value respectively YOY.

    Imports by the fisheries sector amounted to 17.9 tons worth $42 million, down 259% in tonnage and 35% in value respectively YOY.

    Imports from the forest and rangeland sector totaled 38.9 tons worth $53.9 million, up 40.1% in tonnage and 6.9% in value YOY.
