Construction of structures higher than 1800 meters is banned in city heights as they are a barrier to wind flow, which can cause air pollution and also the inversion phenomenon.
However the implementation of this law in the capital and other big cities needs greater supervision, said Majid Abbaspour, head of the faculty of environment and energy, at Tehran’s Islamic Azad University of Science and Research.
“One of the most common causes of air pollution is inversion. Construction on city high points can negatively impact air circulation,” he said, reports IRNA. Inversion acts like a blanket cover at a height of 200-300 meters, thus preventing pollution in the air from exiting.
