SCI Surveys Consumer Price Changes at Provincial Level

The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending Oct. 21, which marks the end of the seventh Iranian month, increased by 27.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period

The growth in overall Consumer Price Index in the seventh month of the current Iranian year (Sept. 22-Oct. 21) was the highest (10.3%) in West Azarbaijan province when compared with the previous month. 

This comes as, according to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran, Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province posted the lowest month-on-month inflation of 4.1% last month. 

The overall CPI, using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 261.5 in the same month, indicating a 7% rise compared with the previous month.  

Kermanshah Province’s goods and services consumer inflation registered a rise of 48.4% during the month ending Oct. 21 compared with the similar month of the year before, the highest among all provinces. 

The year-on-year CPI growth was the lowest for Mazandaran with 36.9%, compared with that of other Iranian provinces. The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 41.4% in the same month. 

The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending Oct. 21 increased by 27.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Hormozgan registered the highest annual inflation with 32.6% while West Azarbaijan posted the lowest with 23.1%. 

 

 

Urban Households 

The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 260.3 during the seventh month of the current Iranian year, indicating a 7.1% rise compared with the previous month. 

The growth in CPI measured for provincial urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (10.2%) for West Azarbaijan province while Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province recorded the lowest monthly inflation growth of 4.7% compared with other provinces. 

The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 41.3% for urban areas. Goods and services CPI of Kermanshah’s urban areas registered a year-on-year rise of 48.3% during the month under review, the highest among all provinces. The CPI increase in urban areas was the lowest for Yazd with 35.7% YOY.

The average CPI in urban areas for the 12-month period ending Oct. 21 increased by 27.3% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Households living in urban areas of Hormozgan saw the highest annual inflation (32.3%) while those of West Azarbaijan witnessed the lowest annual inflation (23.3%) among all Iranian provinces. 

The average goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending Oct. 21 for Tehran Province, wherein lies the capital city, increased by 30% compared with the corresponding period of last year.

SCI had put Tehran’s average annual inflation rate for the preceding Iranian month, which ended on Sept. 21, at 29%. 

The consumer inflation for the month under review registered an increase of 41.2% compared with the similar month of the previous Iranian year. The year-on-year inflation of the month ending Sept. 21 was 37.4%. 

The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) of Tehran Province stood at 269.7 last month, indicating a 6.1% rise compared with the month before. Month-on-month consumer inflation was 3.3% for the preceding month (Aug. 22-Sept. 21.)

SCI put urban and rural 12-month inflation for the month under review at 30.1% and 29.7%, respectively. 

CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 41.3% for urban areas and 38.8% for rural areas in the month ending Oct. 21. 

The overall CPI reached 269.8 for urban households and 265.8 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 6.1% and 5.5% for urban and rural areas, respectively.

 

 

Rural Households

The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 268.2 in the month under review, which indicates a 6.9% increase compared with the previous month. 

The growth in CPI of rural households compared with the previous month was highest for West Azarbaijan with 10.5% while rural households living in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad saw a 3% increase in the prices of goods and services compared with the month before, the lowest rate compared with other provinces. 

The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 42.2% for rural areas in the same month. CPI of Bushehr’s rural areas registered a YOY increase of 51.1% during the seventh month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the year-on-year CPI increase was lowest for Ilam with 36% compared with other provincial rural areas. 

The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the 12-month period increased by 26.7% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Hormozgan registered the highest annual inflation in rural areas (33%) while Khuzestan posted the lowest annual inflation (21.6%).
