The play ‘Christ According to Pilate’, narrating the last hours of the life of Jesus Christ, will be performed at Fajr Theater Festival.
The sources of the play are the holy Qur’an and Bible, Masoud Delkhah director, told MNA about his latest work.
The Iranian playwright, actor, and director of theater said the request for staging the play was sent to City Theater long ago and it would go on stage during the 33rd Fajr Theater Festival, January 21 to February 1, 2015.
The play narrates the last hours of Jesus Christ and also his trial. “Not all aspects of Christ’s life are to be depicted on stage but I mean to portray only parts of it, especially his last moments,” he said.

The director of ‘Arakhsh’ said he also used Mikhail Bulgakov’s ‘The Master and Margarita’ and ‘My Bibles’ by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt as reference material.
‘Uncle Vanya’s’ actor further said ‘My Bibles’ has two parts: one on Christ’s childhood, named ‘The Olive Garden’, and the other is on his last moments called ‘Gospel according to Pilate’.
The story is narrated from the eyes of Pilate, the fifth prefect of the Roman province of Judaea, from 26 – 36 AD, who presides over the trial of Jesus and orders his crucifixion, but later regrets the decision.
The performance is designed in a manner that performers and audience “should be very close to each other. So I have asked to perform it in a black box hall such as Sayeh, Charsoo, or Qashqai and I hope it will be approved,” Delkhah said.
Some 12 to 14 performers will take part in the stage production.
