    Iron Ore Concentrate Output Reaches 11.9 Million Tons

    More than 11.91 million tons of iron ore concentrates were produced in Iran during the first three months of the current fiscal year (March 20- June 20) to register a 2% fall compared with the corresponding period of the year before.

    Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex accounted for 3.85 million tons of the total output (down 9% YOY), latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization show.

    It was followed by Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex with 2.63 million tons (no change YOY), Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 1.76 million tons (up 26% YOY), Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 1.08 million tons (down 6% YOY), Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 997,316 tons (down 20% YOY), National Development Industrial and Mineral Co. with 604,944 tons (up 19% YOY), Opal Parsian Sangan with 554,361 tons (down 14% YOY), Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company with 298,747 tons (up 73% YOY) and Jalalabad Iron Ore Complex with 145,082 tons (up 17% YOY).

    Iranian steel mills produced a total of 3.96 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the third Iranian month (May 21-June 20) to witness a 4% fall compared with the corresponding month of last year.

    Concentrate production capacity is estimated to hit 68.5 million tons, while the actual production would reach 58.1 million tons, realizing an 85% of the capacity by March 20, 2021.

    Sangan Iron Ore Concentrate Plant located in city of Sangan, in Khaf County of northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province, was inaugurated on June 11, by President Hassan Rouhani via videoconferencing.

    The first phase of Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company’s Sangan Concentrate Plant has a capacity of producing 5 million tons of iron ore concentrates per year. This plant has created 500 direct jobs.

    As the managing director of Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company, known as SIMIDCO, Ali Emraei, told ILNA, 38 trillion rials ($192 million) have been invested in this project.

    An IMIDRO report on development of under-construction iron ore concentrate production units suggests that a total of 23.15 million tons/year are expected to be added to Iran’s iron ore concentrate production capacity by the time the development of all these units is complete in the fiscal 2023-24.

    The report, giving details on the units and their physical progress as of November 21, 2019, shows Sangan Steel Mining Industries Company located in Khaf County of Khorasan Razavi Province will have a production capacity of 5 million tons/year. It is expected to become operational by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2021).

    Kaveh Pars Steel Company, also located in Khaf, will become operational in the fiscal 2021-22. It will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year upon completion.

    Pasargad Steel Complex will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year. Located in Shiraz, capital of Fars Province, the project is expected to be launched by the yearend.

    The second phase of "Gohar Zamin Iron Ore", located in Sirjan, Kerman Province, will have a capacity of 2 million tons/year in the fiscal 2022-23.

    Also coming on stream during 2022-23, "Sharq Mineral Supply & Production Co" and "Khorasan Steel Complex Company", located in Khaf will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons upon completion.

    The development project of "Opal Parsian Sangan" in Khaf will have a production capacity of 2.4 million tons/year. It is expected to be inaugurated in the fiscal 2023-24, during which the third phase of "Gohar Zamin Iron Ore" unit located in Baft, Kerman Province, will also be complete. The latter project will have a production capacity of 4 million tons/year.
