Agro Mechanization Coefficient on the Rise

The agricultural mechanization coefficient in Iran presently stands at 1.8 horsepower per hectare.

The figure stood at 1.2 hp/ha when President Hassan Rouhabi first took office in August 2013, according to the head of Agricultural Mechanization Expansion Center affiliated to the Agriculture Ministry.

“The coefficient is expected to increase to 2.1 hp/ha by the end of Rouhani’s second term [August 2021], and to 3 hp/ha by the fiscal 2031-32,” Kambiz Abbasi was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

According to the official, 15 trillion rials ($114 million) worth of investments have been made into the mechanization of different fields of agriculture since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2019).

About 95% of Iran’s agricultural machinery, he said, are produced domestically and the rest is imported.

The Fourth International Exhibition of Agricultural Machinery & Equipment, Inputs and Irrigation Systems, also known as "Iran Agri Show 2020", opened at Tehran’s International Fairground on Jan. 14.

According to Abbasi, companies from Turkey, Poland, the UK, Italy, Germany and China are taking part in the event.

The expo has been organized for introducing the capabilities of Iran’s agriculture sector, bridging the gap between domestic and international firms, introducing latest international achievements and technologies, and promoting marketing.

The four-day event will conclude on Jan. 17.
