Brazil Economic Recovery Continues

Brazilian Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles was listed as the country’s representative to the G20 summit over the weekend, as President Michel Temer continues his struggle to retain power as a corruption scandal drags on, ATimes reported. Though Temer managed to make it to Hamburg for a brief appearance, Meirelles stayed for three days in the German city, Bloomberg reports, making efforts to reassure world leaders that Brazil’s economic recovery continues, regardless of the political situation. “Meirelles is the guarantor of economic stability,” Senator Jose Agripino Maia, from the government-allied Democratas party said. “If the politics is going badly, the economy is on the right track.” “The economic team is on board, it was chosen by him and will continue,” Meirelles said in a video taped in Hamburg. “You can continue investing, consuming, the country will continue its growth path.” A Constitution and Justice Committee will begin discussions this week on whether the congress should vote on putting Temer on trial.
