The movie ‘Mazar-i-Sharif’ by Abdolhassan Barzideh was premiered at Esteqlal Cinema in Tehran on Sunday (August 23).
The film is about the assassination of Iranian diplomats in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif 17 years ago, Borna News Agency reported.
On August 8, 1998, Taliban militants killed eight Iranian diplomats and an Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) correspondent following an attack on the Iranian consulate.
However, a diplomat Allahmadad Shahsavan, had a narrow escape. An Afghan family helped him reach Iran safely after 19 days of walking on a dangerous route.
Masoud Raygan, Hossein Yari and Mahtab Keramati star in the 90-minute war movie produced by the Arts Department of the Islamic Propagation Organization.
Over 1,500 Afghans were hired to act as extras in the film, which will be on the big screen soon.
Efforts are also underway to screen the movie in regional countries.
