People are not allowed to donate blood for one year after undergoing phlebotomy therapeutic services to avoid developing anemia, said Majid Moslemi, deputy of donation at Tehran’s Blood Transfusion Organization. Phlebotomy is a procedure that removes blood from a person’s body with the specific goal of reducing iron overload. Although it involves the same procedure as blood donation, the primary difference is the frequency of how often the patient can give blood. “So we urge donors to follow doctors’ advice,” IRNA quoted him as saying. The therapeutic service is one of the 11 traditional medicine services offered legally at more than 20 health centers at universities of medical sciences since 2013.
