Israel’s drones have reportedly been hacked and images stolen from their cameras as a result of a sustained cyber-spying campaign by Britain and America.
According to a report in The Intercept, which cited documents stolen from the US National Security Agency by Edward Snowden, the operation to filch Israel’s secret surveillance was codenamed “Anarchist”.
It used an installation on a Cypriot mountain to hack the signals from a wide range of drones operating over Syria, Gaza, the Golan Heights and elsewhere, Sky News reported.
“Anarchist operated from a Royal Air Force installation in the Troodos Mountains, near Mount Olympus, the highest point on Cyprus,” the report said.
“The Troodos site ‘has long been regarded as a ‘Jewel in the Crown’ by NSA as it offers unique access to the Levant, North Africa, and Turkey’, according to an article from GCHQ’s internal wiki.”
