European Firm Offers to Build Solar Plants in Iran

An unnamed Spanish-German investment company has expressed readiness to build 50 megawatts of solar power plants in Bakhtar Region, namely Markazi, Lorestan and Hamedan provinces, the region’s director for distributed power generation plan announced on Monday.  “Based on bilateral negotiations with the European company, not only it is prepared to invest in the construction of 50 MW of solar power plants in Bakhtar Region, but it is also eager to cooperate with Iran in the prospective electricity plans,” Alireza Sheikhi was also quoted as saying by IRNA. Sheikhi noted that in view of the growing need for electricity, shortage of fossil fuel resources and applying the principles of Resistance Economy—a set of guidelines proposed by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on weaning the economy off oil revenues and focusing on domestic potentials, Bakhtar Regional Electricity Company has put the establishment of 300-MW solar power plants on its agenda. The solar plants are due to be funded by foreign direct investment.
