Iran’s saffron production will double over the next 10-15 years, says National Saffron Council member, Ali Hosseini. According to the official, domestic saffron production stands at about 300 tons in the current Iranian year (to end March 19), which is 43% more than last year’s yield. “Presently, there is 80,000 hectares of land under saffron cultivation in the two provinces of South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi,” he was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency on Tuesday. The northeastern provinces account for more than 90% of Iran’s total saffron production.
