More than 6,000 tons of hand-woven carpets were exported over the past 11 months of the current Iranian year (ends March 20), registering a 32% rise compared with the similar period last year, IRNA quoted head of Iran’s National Carpet Center (INCC) Hamid Kargar as saying on Sunday. He added that the value of exports over the period has amounted to $314 million. The official further noted that Iran has registered 10 exclusive brands (Kashmar, Mashahad, Kashan, Kerman, Naein, Yazd, Ardebil, Sarough, Turkmen, Golestan, and Hamedan) for its hand-woven carpets at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in an attempt to prevent other countries from copying the designs and patterns of the Iranian carpets.
