In the first ever international conference on bitumen production, figures at the event showed that Iran topped bitumen exports for the Middle East region, and ranked fourth in the world, said Mohsen Delaviz managing director of Pasargad Oil Company (POC).
“Global demand for bitumen is over 100 million tons, and four percent have been allocated to Iran, Delaviz said
Currently, Iran annually exports 2.3 million tons of bitumen of different grades, far exceeding any of its regional competitors.
Delaviz also added that due to the high quality and competitive price, international customers are more than interested in Iranian manufactured bitumen.
“Considering the practical plans in this sector, Iran could gain a good positioning among other bitumen suppliers around the world,” Delaviz stated.
He also suggested that the POC has already set out long term plans to mark its position in the world rankings, as it plans to offer higher quality bitumen in the near future.
The POC as the biggest supplier of bitumen in Iran is more focused on long term contracts, as the company has signed a contract with Oman to supply 500,000 tons of bitumen, Delaviz noted, adding that POC is negotiating with other potential customers including a European company, as their demand is more than 2 million tons of bitumen a year, which should be supplied in a long term contract. He said that Iran’s bitumen has been exported to more than 61 countries in recent years.
