Iranian volleyball player Seyed Mohammad Mousavi was named one of the best players at the FIVB Men’s World Cup 2015.
With a triumph over Argentina on Wednesday, the US claimed their first World Cup in 30 years. Italy and Poland stood second and third respectively, Mehr News Agency reported.
The ‘Team of the Tournament’ was announced with Iranian volleyball Mousavi as the second best middle blocker.
The others included best setter Micah Christenson, best libero Erik Shoji and most valuable player Matt Anderson from the US, best opposite spiker Ivan Zaytsev and first best outside spiker Osmany Juantorena from Italy, second best outside spiker Yuki Ishikawa from Japan, and first best middle blocker Sebastian Sole from Argentina.
Iran finished eighth in the World Cup, having won four games out of 11. Led by Serbian coach Slobodan Kovac, Iran has defeated world powerhouses in recent years in the World League and World Championship competitions. However, this time their performance was not up to the mark and they lost even to not very strong teams like Canada and Australia.
