The rate of HIV infection and hepatitis infection transmitted during blood transfusion is zero in the country, said Abbas Sedaqat, head of the AIDS Prevention Office at the Health Ministry. “At present, there are 250 blood transfusion centers across the country and they undertake quality-assured screening of all donated blood for transfusion-transmissible infections, (a core component of every national blood program) including HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and syphilis,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Currently, 39 countries across the world don’t perform such screening tests for donated blood, he noted. Failure to supply the required screening kits is one of the most common obstacles to check pathogenic factors in blood products.
