Peter Shaffer’s Iconic Play ‘Amadeus’ at Hafez Hall

 An adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s play ‘Amadeus’ directed by Javad Molania was on stage at Hafez Theater Hall in Tehran on Tuesday.

In Amadeus, the English playwright and screenwriter of numerous award-winning plays gives a highly fictionalized account of the life of German prolific and influential composer of the classical era Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). The play also focuses on Italian composer and conductor Antonio Sillier, an older composer who, propelled by jealousy, plotted the tragic downfall of his rival Mozart.

The play is translated into Persian from English by Minoo Jan-Mohammadi. In the adaption, some comic scenes have been added to make it a bit more enjoyable for the audience, Honaronline reported Molania as saying.

According to Molania, the play is performed in four languages --  French, Persian and Italian and the songs in German. “The parts in Italian, French and German are accompanied by translations screened above the stage as surtitle.”

Significant use is made of the music that is performed live on stage by Omid Kazemi on piano, Amir Farzaneh on flute, Aref Kazempour on violin, Shaqayeq Nejati on violoncello and Javad Khajavi on the percussion. An opera is also performed during the play.

Parisa Delfani, Darya Daryaei, Sheyda Sefidgari, Majid Norouzi, Mohammad Sadeqi, Mahshad Bahrami-Nejad and Mehrnaz Farahani are in the cast.  

The venue is located at Shahriar St., Hafez Avenue. The play will run  through May 5 and tickets are available at Tiwall.com.
