National Library of Iran will be hosting the unveiling of a Persian translation of the book series that cover discourses and interviews of religious and political leader Imam Musa al-Sadr during his 19-year activities in Lebanon.
Published by Tehran-based Cultural Research Institute Imam Musa al-Sadr, the title ‘Step by Step With Imam’ is printed in 12 volumes. The books were first released through the efforts of Amal (Hope) Movement in Lebanon in 2000 in Arabic.
The movement is a Lebanese political party associated with Lebanon’s Shia community that was co-founded by Musa al-Sadr and politician and former speaker of the Lebanese parliament Hussein el-Husseini in 1974.
The first nine volumes are each divided into two parts; the first parts are daily reports of the activities of Musa al-Sadr in Lebanon while the second cover his speeches, discourses and interviews related to the reported events of the first part. The last three volumes cover his discourses and interpretations of Qur’an, Islamic beliefs and the Amal Movement respectively.
Born in 1928 in Qom, Musa al-Sadr was a Shia Muslim religious and political leader who was instrumental in improving the lot of the Shia in South Lebanon.
He underwent to seminary school in Iran and left Qom for Najaf, Iraq, to study theology. He returned to Iran in 1958.
The next year, Musa al-Sadr went to Lebanon to work for the rights of downtrodden and marginalized Shia Muslims in port city of Tyre. There he founded and revived many schools and charities.
He disappeared in 1978 with his two companions under mysterious circumstances while on a trip in Libya that he had made at the invitation of its former leader Muammar Gaddafi. The three men were never heard from again. Many theories exist around the circumstances of his disappearance, none of which have been proven.
The book launch ceremony is to be held at Qalam Hall of the National Library in Tehran on February 25.
