Iranian short animation ‘Changeover’, directed by Mehdi Alibeygi, will be on the screen at the Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF), England in November.

Running for two minutes, it is the shortest film selected for the World Animation Award, Mehr News Agency reported. Within a single shot of the corner of a badminton pitch, Alibeygi serves up a deceptively simple comic tale of mistaken identity.

Made in four months, ‘Changeover’ is a colorful and perfectly poised animation which tells the story of a bird on a badminton pitch that mistakes a shuttlecock for another bird.

It has attended different festivals in 2015 and won the Audience Award at Switzerland’s Fantoche, the 3rd Prize of the Seoul Metro-Berliner Fenster as well as the second prize of the 5th Viewster Online Film Festival.

“It was also screened in Berlin’s subways,” Alibeygi said.

The biggest film festival in England outside London, it is a qualifying film festival for the Academy Awards. The winners in International Short Film Competition and World Animation Award are eligible for the Academy’s Short Film Awards.

The 29th LIFF will be held from November 5-19.

 ‘Ice Water’ Goes to Turkey

Iranian short film ‘Ice Water’ by Jalal Saedpanah will vie in the competition section of the 16th International Izmir Short Film Festival.

The film is about an old man who saves water from droplets of melting ice. He reproduces the water from ice and ice from water in a form of a cycle which becomes a part of his life.

Outstanding shorts from all genres including narrative, documentary, animation and experimental films will compete in the festival’s National and International competition categories for the Golden Cat awards.

This year’s edition is slated for November 17-22 in Izmir city on Turkey’s Aegean coast.  Around 591 short films from 85 countries were submitted for the event of which 10 were shortlisted for the international, and 26 for the national sections.

Established in 2000, it is one of the most important short film festivals in Turkey and has a key role in the cultural landscape of Izmir.
