Construction of the last phase of West Ethylene Pipeline from Miandoab to Tabriz commenced pursuant to President Hassan Rouhani's visit to East Azerbaijan Province on Thursday, managing director of Tabriz Petrochemical Complex said.
The 154 kilometers pipe laying project will be carried out in 24 months at a cost of $64.5 million (2,150 billion rials), from Miandoab, in West Azerbaijan Province, to the receive station in Tabriz Petrochemical Complex, Alireza Sadri was quoted by IRNA as saying. Upon completion of the project and construction of new ethylbenzene and styrene monomer units in Tabriz refinery, production capacity of the complex will double, reaching 700,000 tons per annum.
The 2,450 km pipeline is designed to transport ethylene from the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone situated in Assalouyeh to West Azarbaijan Province in northwestern Iran. Currently, eleven provinces and 14 petrochemical plants are located on the route of the pipeline. It is reportedly the longest ethylene transfer pipeline in the world, with a final capacity to transfer 2.5 million tons of ethylene per annum. The main suppliers of the pipeline are Kavian petrochemical complex in Bushehr Province, and Arvand Petrochemical Complex in the South Khuzestan Province. Once fully operational, it will supply feedstock for 11 petrochemical complexes, including Mahshahr, Andimeshk, Lorestan, Kermanshah, Hamedanm, Kurdistan, Mahabad, and Miandoab.
The West Ethylene Pipeline can also be utilized to export petrochemicals to the western and northern neighbors, namely Iraq, Turkey, Georgia, and Armenia.
