Outstanding master of Persian literature and renowned scholar Mir Jalaleddin Kazzazi was honored in a ceremony on Tuesday (May 19) at Arasbaran Cultural Center in Tehran.
Kazzazi is mostly known for his works on Ferdowsi’s epic Shahnameh (Book of Kings), though to date, he has authored, translated into Persian and edited 50 books. Moreover, 50 articles have also been published by him in cultural and university monthly reviews.
“All the work I have done has been for the sake of my dear land. By honoring me, you in fact revere yourselves and this great country,” Mehr news agency quoted Kazzazi as saying.
He said being born in Iran is the most precious blessing the Almighty has bestowed upon him. “What I have done is the least I can do to thank God and pay my debt to this great nation.”
Kazzazi’s three new books were unveiled by him and the prominent master of traditional music Shahram Nazeri. His commemorative stamp was also released.
Poetry reading, musical performance, and screening a documentary on his life were other programs in the event.
Kazzazi was born in 1948 in Kermanshah. After high school graduation he went to Tehran and and studied Persian Literature in Tehran University and earned his PhD in 1991. He now teaches Persian Language and Literature in Allameh Tabatabaei University.
His translation of ‘Aeneid’, a Latin epic poem by Virgil, in 1990 won the award for the best book of the year and his ‘Ancient Treatise’, written in 9 volumes, won the award for fundamental research at the Kharazmi International Festival.
He has also participated and made speeches in tens of scientific conferences nationwide and across the world. He was selected as one of the literary figures in Iran Hall of Fame for his contribution to Persian culture and literature.
