The era of unilateralism is coming to an end as a new world order has taken shape, President Ebrahim Raisi stated on Tuesday during his trip to Indonesia.
“These changes will form new powers and they’re in the interests of developing countries,” he said in a meeting with the speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia, Bambang Soesatyo, President.ir reported.
According to the top official, the recent developments in the international order would benefit Palestine, Myanmar and Yemen in the near future.
He made the remarks during his two-day trip to Indonesia to discuss the expansion of ties with the Asian nation.
Noting that Indonesia holds a privileged status in East Asia, Raisi added, “cementing relations between the two nations benefits the world of Islam and Muslims.”
He pointed to economic sanctions imposed on Iran, saying the country managed to turn these threats into opportunities by “believing in independence and relying on Islam”.
The President mentioned recent technological advances as proof that Iran had not surrendered to pressures exerted by the West.
“Progress in the fields of science and technology has placed Iran among countries with advanced nuclear and space sciences,” Raisi said.
Soesatyo, in turn, pointed to historic Tehran-Jakarta relations and said that strengthening of ties would benefit Muslims around the world. He also expressed concern over increased hostilities towards Palestinians and underscored their right to determine their own destiny.
Raisi also met with the secretary general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Kao Kim Hourn, on Wednesday morning and discussed bilateral ties.
Raisi stated that the organization played an important role in the economic development of its member states and that he was eager to hold talks on how they could improve relations.
Developing relations with Asian countries and cooperation with its regional assemblies has been a priority of the Raisi administration.
Along this line, the government has pursued Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and free trade cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union.
