A total of 6,657 tons of shrimp were harvested from Iran’s southern waters in the last Iranian year (March 2020-21), showing a 41% growth compared with the year before.
According to Mokhtar Akhoundi, an official with Iran’s Fisheries Organization, the provinces of Khuzestan, Bushehr and Hormozgan accounted for 48%, 30% and 22% of last year’s total shrimp harvest respectively, IRNA reported.
Agriculture officials estimate farmed shrimp production to have reached 52,000 tons in the last fiscal year.
