The National Iranian Oil Company's exports have plummeted sharply since the beginning of August, as traditional customers like China, Japan and India have curtailed their purchases in view of the reimposition of US sanctions in November, a senior energy analyst said.
Morteza Behrouzifard added that the country's crude sales dropped by 700,000 barrels to 1.68 million barrels per day in August, a 20% decrease from the same period in July, ILNA reported.
The dramatic falloff coincides directly with US President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal on May 8, which lifted sanctions about two years ago.
"Even with substantial discounts, big oil buyers will opt for the US due to their national interests," he said.
A 10-megawatt solar power plant was launched in Kharameh County, Fars Province, on Friday by a domestic firm, marking the southern province's first-ever solar venture.
The photovoltaic project, costing 650 billion rials ($6.5 million), has joined the national grid in less than five months with a completely domestic design, IRNA reported.
However, this is just the initial phase of the plant with a nominal capacity of 130 MW per annum. Upon its completion by March 2019, the plant is projected to generate 250 MW each year.
The project, including financing, is carried out by Iran's Banian Sanat Persian Holding and domestic engineers, in collaboration with an unnamed German consulting firm.
Tehran's residents consume 840 million cubic meters of groundwater reserves per annum, 40 mcm more than the aquifers’ annual intake, the managing director of Tehran Province Water and Wastewater Company said.
“The subsidiary companies of TPWWC are expected to study the effects of implementing the wastewater network project on the status of Tehran aquifers, which is the state-owned company’s major concern,” Mohammad Reza Bakhtiari was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.
"Groundwater reserves in Tehran Province have fallen by 150 million cubic meters per year," he said, adding that nearly 6,700 kilometers of wastewater network have so far been established in Tehran.

Iran Privatization Organization has presented a number of incentives to energize and reward the private sector in taking over state-run enterprises and assets, an advisor to the organization said.
“For example, the enterprises may be sold on installment. Interest rate charged for installment credit will be 14%, if an enterprise is transferred to companies affiliated to the quasi-state sector while it will be 3% if it is handed over to the ‘real’ private sector. Furthermore, the period of time until payments are made in full is extendable for the private sector,” Jafar Sobhani also told SENA.
On the transition of public companies to private owners in recent years, Sobhani noted that all public entities privatized since last year have been ceded to the “real” private sector and not a single rial of the shares of public organizations has been transferred to quasi-state bodies.
One of the main hurdles in the way of “real” privatization in Iran was the emergence of semi-private companies during the flawed privatization process in the not-too-distant past.

Figures show that Nima, the online foreign exchange system set up by the Central Bank of Iran at the behest of the government, is increasingly being embraced by traders following forex policy amendments.
About $1.5 billion worth of deals have been conducted in the system from Aug. 6 when President Hassan Rouhani's administration signaled an about-face in its foreign currency policies and promised a market free of government meddling, IBENA reported.
From late April when the government officially launched Nima to boost transparency on the back of its initial policy based on fixing forex rates, the system has seen about $12 billion worth of deals between importers and exporters.
The Central Bank of Iran said in a statement that hard currency for students at the official rate will be paid only for the first academic half-year of 2018. Thus, students will receive the currency that they need only until Sept. 22. After this deadline, foreign currency will be paid to students studying abroad at the market rates through two banks, the bank’s website announced. In April, CBI announced that students are only allowed to take $15,000 out of the country through selected agent banks–Tejarat and Saman–and on the basis of open market rates. “The sale, transfer and payment of foreign currencies for students’ living expenses up to a cap of $1,000 per person and $500 for each family member a month” are also strictly allowed at open market rates and through the two aforementioned banks, IBENA had reported at the time.
Experts believe Iran's housing sector is already showing signs of sliding back into recession after enjoying only nine short months of booming activities.
The main reason behind this is the significant jump in prices over the past few months due to fluctuations in foreign currency markets.
The ailing housing sector went into what turned out to be its worst recession in recent history from 2013 and struggled to get out for more than five years. Experts have since identified a massive price surge in the two preceding years as the main reason behind the prolonged bout.
Volatility once again reigned in the Iranian stock markets during the last week. Indices went sky-high with a news and nosedived at another.

In a letter to the Central Bank of Iran governor Abdolnasser Hemmati, Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari announced the list of imports exempted from paying the 28,000-rial surcharge. The latter pertains to the exchange rate difference between the government’s subsidized forex rate at which their import orders has been registered before the new policy took effect, i.e. on Aug. 7, and the value of foreign currency determined by Secondary Forex Market. The list includes 3,479 items categorized in three main groups of “Machinery and Equipment”, “Raw Materials for Production”, and “Raw Materials of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment”, Mehr News Agency reported. An increasing number of consignments have been piling up at customs terminals of major Iranian ports, without being claimed by their owners since the government unveiled its new forex policy and its controversial Clause V. Under Clause V, imported goods, except for items entitled to the exemption, can receive customs clearance only if their owners pay the surcharge on the exchange rate difference.

The Iranian Tour Operators Association has warned of a further decline in the number of visitors from several key source markets in the upcoming season at a time when the national currency devaluation should have normally boosted the country's inbound tourism.
In a talk to ISNA, Ebrahim Pourfaraj, president of the association, said a review of tour reservations for autumn shows that the sliding trend that started in January will persist.
"The decrease in foreign arrivals started in January, but did not reach a critical level until [US President Donald] Trump and his foreign minister made statements [against Iran] and the US violated the nuclear deal which fueled more widespread hesitation about traveling to Iran among tourists," he said.
Although official statistics indicate a general rise in incoming tourist numbers, the growth has only been achieved on the back of a limited number of markets that apparently generate smaller revenue.
