6 Weeks Needed for Greek Economic Plan

Greece needs just six weeks to create a global economic plan, new Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said, as he tours Europe looking for backing to renegotiate the country’s debt repayment, Telesurtv reported. “We need a maximum of six weeks: that’s the time we are seeking from our European partners to be able to finalize a coherent program of alternative policies to austerity,” Varoufakis told Italian newspaper Il Messaggero. Varoufakis, of the anti-austerity Syriza party that recently swept to a historic electoral victory in Greece, is currently in Germany in the latest leg of the tour, hoping to shore up support to slash Greece’s €240 billion ($270 billion) debt.
