The suspended flight between Tehran and Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan will resume as of Sunday, June 10, according to the head of the Iraqi city's international airport. "Preparations for the resumption of the route are complete and the first flight is scheduled to take off next Sunday after about a nine-month hiatus," he said, ISNA reported. Following a notification by the Baghdad government, foreign airlines suspended flights to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah last September. The notice was issued in response to the region's controversial move to hold an independence referendum. Flights between Tehran and Erbil, another major city in Iraq's Kurdistan, resumed in April 2017, making travel possible from Tehran to the Kurdistan region twice a week.
