Caspian Facility Biggest Northern Port in Iran

Once the Caspian Port project is completed, the port will be the largest in northern Iran and make a major contribution to national and local economic development, the governor general of Gilan Province said.

“Building docks and ports on the Caspian Sea is a huge task and will definitely play a major role in the economic development of Gilan Province and the country,” ISNA also quoted Mostafa Salari as saying on Thursday.

“A linkup between the Caspian Port and the national railroad network will help establish the infrastructure required to complete the International North-South Transport Corridor project, which in turn will connect Caspian Sea littoral states and develop their maritime economy,” he added.

The INSTC project is a major transit route designed to facilitate the transportation of goods from Mumbai in India to Helsinki in Finland, using Iranian ports and railroads, which the Islamic Republic plans to connect to those of Azerbaijan and Russia.

At the initial stage, it is planned to transport 6 million tons of cargo per year through the corridor and 15-20 million tons of cargo in the future.

Salari also highlighted measures to attract investors into the Anzali Free Zone, which will be in charge of administering the Caspian Port.

“Providing services and incentives and offering tax and duty exemption to local and overseas investors are some of the measures taken by the Anzali Free Zone as part of its agenda to create employment, empower the local workforce, provide funds for small- and medium-sized enterprises and support knowledge-based companies,” he said.
