Efforts to prepare the Naqsh-e Rostam historical site in Fars Province for global inscription have gained momentum, after scaffolding and laser scanning projects were completed successfully.  The site is meant to be incorporated into the profile of Persepolis in UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.

"Laser scanning will provide precise details about the structure and help the site's restoration," Masoud Rezaei Monfared, manager of Persepolis World Heritage Site, also told IRNA.

Laser scanning is widely used worldwide for the documentation of historical site. Scanners capture the geometry of a building by sending laser beams through it.

According to Monfared, the 60-meter-tall scaffolding on the Tomb of Xerxes I, fourth Achaemenid king, has been set up to provide easier access to inaccessible spots of the carved structures and the interior of the tomb.

Besides, maintenance work has been conducted on water canals at the site to prevent damage in the rainy season.

Monfared hoped that these efforts will accelerate Naqsh-e Rostam's inscription on the UNESCO list.

An ancient necropolis located 12 km northwest of Persepolis, Naqsh-e Rostam is one of the most awe-inspiring ancient sites of the Achaemenid Empire, which consists of the colossal tombs of Persian kings dating back to the first millennium BC.
