Iran Airports Company registered a total of 320,524 takeoffs and landings by domestic and foreign airlines during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2019-Jan. 20), which indicates a 3% decline compared with the similar period of last year.
More than 39.63 million passengers were transported during the period under review, indicating no significant change year-on-year.
Over 400,195 tons of cargos were handled during the same period, which also shows no significant change compared with the corresponding period of the last fiscal year, IAC's latest report published on its website shows.
A total of 265,822 takeoffs and landings were registered by domestic flights during the period, down 2% YOY. More than 31.23 million passengers and 231,120 tons of cargo were transported domestically, both indicating a 1% rise YOY.
On the international front, 54,702 takeoffs and landings were registered, down by 8% YOY. A total of 8.4 million passengers and more than 169,075 tons of cargo were transported to and from overseas destinations, down 5% and 1% respectively compared with the corresponding period of last year.
As in previous IAC reports, Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport was the busiest Iranian airport during the period with 103,669 takeoffs and landings, registering a 2% decline.
The airport handled 12.35 million passengers, showing a 1% increase and around 86,061 tons of cargo, indicating 2% rise YOY.
Mashhad International Airport was the second busiest airport with 51,706 takeoffs and landings, indicating a 1% YOY decrease. It transported 7.59 million passengers (unchanged YOY) and 71,705 tons of cargos, down 3% year-on-year.
Imam Khomeini International Airport registered 37,386 takeoffs and landings (a 9% YOY decrease), while transporting more than 6.08 million passengers (a 3% decline) and over 123,646 tons of cargos, showing a 1% increase YOY.
IKIA ranked third on the list of Iran’s busiest airports during the 10-month period.
From the 10th Iranian month's perspective (Dec. 22, 2019-Jan. 20), a total of 29,837 takeoffs and landings were registered, which indicates a 1% growth compared with the similar period of last year.
More than 3.55 million passengers and 34,552 tons of cargos were transported during the month, indicating a 3% and 5% rise respectively YOY.
The report shows 25,514 takeoffs and landings were registered by domestic flights from Dec. 21, 2019, to Jan. 20, up 1% YOY. Close to 2.95 million passengers and 21,350 tons of cargo were transported domestically, indicating a 4% and 7% increase respectively YOY.
On the international front, 4,323 takeoffs and landings were registered, showing a 1% increase YOY. A total of 606,671 passengers and more than 13,202 tons of cargo were transported to and from overseas destinations, both indicating a 1% increase YOY.
Iran Airports Company is an arm of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, which manages 54 airports across the country.
